How to determine the degree of weapon wear
The corresponding menu will help you track the status of weapons,as well as the weapon wheel. Under the main characteristics of a particular instance, the player can find a white status indicator. Over time, the color will change to gray, which will mean that the weapon has begun to wear out, and it's time to take care of it to return to its original combat characteristics. Also, to determine that it is time to deal with weapons, will help and its appearance.
In RDR 2, the state of the weapon is determined by three indicators: soot, rust and dirt.
Soot
This refers to gunpowder soot. The more often a game character uses a weapon, the more it will become, and, accordingly, the worse its combat characteristics will be. At some point, after a certain shot, the weapon will be in the worst condition.
Rust
It appears if the weapon is submerged in snow or water, and even if it is protected from the outside by a holster. If you keep it in this environment for a certain time, it will become covered with rust.
Dirt
Full wear is achieved if the weapon is in a thick layer of dirt for a certain time. The presence of a holster also does not save from wear.

Slowing down wear
In the game Red Dead Redemption 2, you can find several items that slow down the wear and tear of weapons. Moreover, the effect of one of them can be used in combination with the other. And if you collect everything, it will take very little time to care for the Arsenal.
The best way to store weapons is in a bag on a horse. In that case, if the path of Arthur will lie through a dangerous environment for weapons (water, mud, snow), you can take a copy of the weapon, which later will not be sorry to throw away in case of wear, but also with which you can protect yourself in case of a sudden attack.
